I (finally) made a YouTube video I'm proud of

Hey friends,

You can hide from yourself, even in your life’s work. Building Refound over the last 10 years, challenging as that was and is, became my comfort zone. Give me a few hours with a leader and I’ll show them a version of themselves they never imagined. The work I do with people is unique, our niche business has a great reputation, and being a small business owner keeps you on your toes. I could’ve kept going on that track for the next 30 years.

But something was gnawing at me. I’d written a great book, that almost 10 years later is still going strong and brings in new work and fans. But I knew in my heart that I was playing it safe—that the ideas in Good Authority were genuine but I was still in some way hiding inside a business domain. Except in very private conversations, I wasn’t sharing with you the rest of the story, the fully personal and spiritual side of it that has nothing to do with business results. I was afraid you’d reject me. Or worse, that you wouldn’t care.

That’s why I launched this personal newsletter last year. You’ve had a front row seat to my fledgling attempts to talk about those things, to share with you who Jonathan Raymond is beyond the world of leadership. And wow has it been the perfect reminder of what I've always shared with you:

You don't get to look good and grow at the same time.

After a lot of trial and error this past year, I recently had a mini-breakthrough. Last week we posted this video and it’s the first time I can tell that people were genuinely impacted by it. I’m treating it as a new baseline for the kind of raw dialogue I want to have with you in the years ahead. It’s nice to feel that I’m starting to find my new voice.
